Hello parents and students!
We hope you had a relaxing and fun weekend! Last week we reviewed biomes, food chains and food webs, and time. This week we will begin several new topics. On Friday I will be having surgery on my knee and will be out of the classroom for the next few weeks. However, Ms. Cristiana and Ms. Pia will be taking over and I will be presenting several virtual lessons as well, similar to how we did following the elections.
As the semester rolls on we will have more “flipped” lessons in which the students will be learning about a topic at home via videos and websites and coming to classes to practice what they have learned and to get guidance and assistance. This is great practice to help them as learners and also a way to prepare for any interruptions in normal classes. The kids did a great job with this and I know that they have learned a lot from the experience!
Here is what we have planned for this week!
In Language Arts class this week and the next several weeks we will be reading Amber Brown is not a Crayon. We will be reading this in class and also as homework. We will focus on building our summarizing skills and also revisit topics like character traits, parts of a story, and other elements of literacy. During this unit in our Writing class we will practice writing compound sentences for writing summaries and also write a friendly letter.
In Math class this week we will start learning about division. Ms. Cristiana will be teaching the kids about the basic concepts of division with several hands-on activities. We will be studying this topic for the next several weeks.
In Social Studies class we will begin a new unit on the Mayans. This week and next week the kids will be researching several aspects of Mayan life. Later we will work together as a class to create a final project about our research.
This week we will begin reading Amber Brown is not a Crayon at home. Please help remind the students that they need to bring their books both home and return them to school each day.
Tuesday: Read Ch. 2 of Amber Brown-Write Characters & Setting, Summary (1-2 sentences)
Wednesday: LA IXL N.3 Word pattern sentences
Thursday: Read Ch. 3 of Amber Brown-Write Characters & Setting, Summary (1-2 sentences)
Friday: Video on the parts of a friendly letter
That’s it for this week! Have a great week parents!
